SUR IN ENGLISH. The new toll motorway links the Costa to Cadiz.
But that is no longer true as, in addition to the new dual carriageway road from Estepona to Guadiaro, opened on July 31st, the toll motorway, inaugurated on Tuesday, has also been extended into the province of Cadiz. "This means that there are new possibilities for expanding tourism", commented Marta. But that is not all: as the two roads link the heart of the Costa del Sol with the eastern of the province of Cadiz, this latter stretch of coast will be opened up to further tourist development, as it will be possible to use Malaga Airport for access to this area.
It now takes 15 minutes to cover the journey from Estepona to Guadiaro and one of the amenities that will most benefit from this speed will be golf. It must not be forgotten that some of the best courses in the country lie in this part of the province of Cadiz, (Valderrama, Sotogrande, San Roque). It is now quite feasible to stay at a luxury hotel in the western Costa del Sol and play on one of these courses.
This opens up a whole new perspective for businesses near the border of the two provinces.
Another service that will benefit enormously from the two new roads will be Algeciras port, one of the most important ones in the continent of Europe with two million containers passing through every year. Since the road link between this port and the port of Malaga is now vastly improved "the movement of goods between the two will benefit", commented Salvador Romero of Malaga Port Authority.
The Confederation of Businesses believes that, in fact, the entire economy of the province of Malaga will benefit from the two new roads.
