SUR IN ENGLISH. Two Costas come closer together.
The road completes the Costa del Sol's road network, allowing drivers to travel from one end of the coast to the other by dual carriageway. Although the new stretch is only 20 kilometers long, it has long been a bottleneck and a black spot for the many road users for whom there was no alternative route between the Costa del Sol and Costa de la Luz. It has been included in road plans for the past 20 years.
More than 30.000 vehicles were expected to use the new road yesterday. For some, the absence of roadworks and tailbacks would mean a reduction in travelling time from almost five hours, to thirty minutes.
The road construction and management company Ausol (Autopista del sol), which has also brought forward by eight months the opening of the extension to the Costa del Sol toll motorway which runs aproximately parallel to the n-340. the lasr stretch of motorway between Estepona and Guadiaro is due to open in the first fortnight of August and will cut the driving time between Málaga and Algeciras to about an hour and a half.
Yesterday, the only road users who were not smiling were the population of San Pedro, where the road through the town is now the main remaining black spot for traffic jams on the Costa del Sol.
